The Wayuu: A Culture Woven in Time

Meet the Wayuu, a proud and ancient indigenous people from Colombia’s La Guajira desert.

A unique matriarchal society, women are the heart of their culture & traditions. For centuries, the Wayuu mastered the ancient art of weaving. This skill, a treasured legacy passed mother-to-daughter, is believed to originate from Walekerü, a mythical spider.

Every bag is a unique masterpiece. Carrying the visual language of the Wayuu soul, telling stories of their wisdom and connection to the land.

How We Support

Many initiatives claim to provide the aid, but unfortunately don't actually fulfil their promises, using such communities only for photo opportunities. At Tayrona, we genuinely make a meaningful lasting impact. Let us explain how:

Direct Support Every Month

The Wayuu communities face profound poverty. We at Tayrona respond directly by ensuring 100% fair trade wages for our artisans and delivering monthly care packages of essential food and clothes. Your purchase means immediate relief.

Our Urgent Mission: Clean Water

The Wayuu have extremely limited access to drinking water due to government neglect & harsh environmental conditions. Through funds generated from sales, Tayrona is tackling this by providing an automatic water pump and filter system for consistent, clean drinking water – a fundamental human right.

Expanding Our Impact

The water project is just the start. We constantly seek new ways to help Wayuu communities thrive and rise above poverty. Building a resilient, self-sufficient future for them.
